Embarrassed

Frankly, I am embarrassed at the time that has elapsed since I last blogged. Maybe I just don't understand blogging. I feel as though I'm talking to myself. In contrast, I've been assembling an online community called Invention to Venture on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=5360784654). There, I find it easier to write and post because I'm speaking to a community that I am getting to know. I'm constantly adding and making new friends (http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=645741879). It's a two-way conversation. Now, I have to admit, some of the tools Facebook provides has limited functionality. But, for the most part it seems I can make it do what I need it to do.

So, before I kill this blog, I'm going to give it one last attempt to make it work.

Hello fellow I2V Amherst attendees!

We at the NCIIA have launched a new blog recently. As networking is the most valuable take-away from any I2V, the I2V blog provides a lasting opportunity for our entrepreneurial community to continue some of the good networking and idea sharing that took place that sunny and inspiring Saturday.

As I reflect back on that day, I ask myself, "Who was the most interesting person I met at I2V Amherst?" Well, there were so many. The speakers were amazing and their stories well-illustrated the path an entrepreneur must chart in order to be successful. I thought the keynote, in particular, really gave a compelling and condensed view of how to get started. If I had to pick one, I would say the most interesting person I met was Dr. Om Prakash, Professor of Plant Biology at UMass Amherst (http://www.bio.umass.edu/plantbio/faculty/parkash.html).

Dr. Prakash has invented genetically modified plants (biotech) to do environmental remediation. In particular, these plants can potentially detoxify a given site of Arsenic and Cadmium. He's also working on improving the nutritional content (while minimizing toxic content) of crops. Fascinating! Who was the most interesting person YOU met at I2V Amherst?

This will be a place to learn about upcoming I2Vs, offer pre and post commentary, connect with other I2V attendees and find resources in support of your entrepreneurial endeavors. Hotlink this site and get ready for action, as this will be the way for I2V attendees to keep their connections alive!

Entering its fifth year, Invention to Venture (I2V) workshops in technology entrepreneurship for science and technology students and faculty. In addition to covering the basics, the I2V workshop is a way to connect to startup resources on the academic campus and the region at large. They have been held in such technology hotspots as Boston, MA, San Diego, CA, Chicago, IL and Gainesville, FL. I2V is a program of the National Collegiate Inventors and Innovators Alliance with sponsorship from The Lemelson Foundation and the Kauffman Foundation.
